What do you wear when you pick up an application for a job.? You want to look nice, because you never know who will be getting the application for you, or if the manager will ask to speak with you. It doesn't have to be super formal, just not sloppy. Like nice slacks and a sweater. Decent, casual clothes. Think casual-neat. something really nice and clean Something conservative but still you. You dont need to dress in a full suit especially if the job doesn't call for that every day. I say Dockers slacks and a nice polo shirt. For me I always wear a skirt and a nice non-revealing blouse with low heels. If you overdress the interviewer thinks you may be desperate or underdress and they think you aren't serious. There is a fine line. Good luck!!! Business attire. the same thing you'll wear at an interview. You never know if you will have an interview on the spot. Be prepared and bring your own pen. Also, be very friendly to whomever hands you the application. The boss often asks their opinion of their impression of you. General: - you should be clean. check your face and hair before going in - you should be clean shaven with a hair cut and otherwise well groomed - don't wear too much cologne!!! - toss your gum before going in. Shirt: - shirt must be cleaned and pressed. check collar and wrists - collared shirt only. I don't even like sweaters. a pressed shirt looks nicer - polo shirt is fine but a button down shirt is better - I prefer to see simple colors like white or light blue. don't do red or orange. :-) - always wear an undershirt!!! Pants: - cleaned and pressed - wear dockers or dress slacks - don't wear an old, worn out belt Shoes: - cleaned and polished - newer shoes are preferred. worn heals are a no-no - don't wear faded dress socks Things to take with you: Drivers License/ID Social Security Card Birth Certificate A few copies of your resume and references A portfolio or binder to carry everything Some may think this is over kill but it could be the difference between just picking up an application and interviewing on the spot!!! Good Luck!!! IT Manager for a leading management consulting firm. |
