How long can you use a reference for a resume?

I've worked a at couple places while in university, since my family moved a lot. Many of them were some time ago, maybe 3-4 yrs. I had pleasent experinces with these companies I worked for.

What is the ettiquet for this, and just to confirm its good to call your refernces before the interview, and give them a heads up.

I would list all of the references you have ever worked for. Your new employer is looking for someone with job experience so they like to see that listed.
