Do they really mean no phone calls?

I sent a cover letter and resume to an organization about a month ago. Their ad said "no phone calls or drop ins." I have followed the directions and not called so far, but I need to know if I will be offered an interview. The deadline for applications was only yesterday so I haven't given up on the possibility of getting an interview. The rush is that I have another job offer on the table that won't last forever. Should I call? If so what should I say? Will they be annoyed that I called after they said not to?

FYI-This is with a nonprofit agency that probably doesn't have an HR department.

If you have an offer, I would take it. Even if they took your call and gave you an interview, you could not end up getting the job and then lose the offer you have in the process.

In general, "do not call" means literally do not call. From experience, I want to be able to scour through resumes and choose who I call back and there usually isn't time for courtesy call backs. If you are in the running, you will usually know pretty quickly. Source(s): http://www.TFGStaffing.com
If it were me, I'd call and just explain to them that you have another offer, but might prefer to work for their organization. If they are so callous that they are annoyed that you called, you don't want to work for them. Someone their should realize that they might lose out on the best candidate and at least review your resume before they brush you off. Good luck!
go ahead, give a call

be polite but confirm whether you are in the running or not
It could take them weeks to sort thru the resumes and decide who to interview and getting an interview doesn't mean you got the job, so take the offer you already have. Non-profits aren't know for giving big raises or having great benefits, because they have very tight budgets controlled by the actua cash they receive, unlike a for-profit business who can borrow when cash flow is tight
Dont call them, they probably wont take your call even if you called.
When I put "no calls" in an ad, and then an applicant calls, I pull that application and mark it "CANNOT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS"
