If you have finished all your work for the day, can you surf the internet or play games? How do you get away w

with it? I do my work really fast and I have always gotten good performance reviews but my boss likes to keep me in my chair all day no matter what. I was just wondering if there were other people surfing the net or doing other non-work-related activities? How many hours do you do it, how do you get away with it, and what is your job title? Thanks! :)

Your company is paying you for that time so unless they tell you it's OK, you should be doing something job-related. If you have no more work to do, volunteer for another assignment. Or use the internet to learn more about the business you are in (or new skills) so you can advance.

If you have nothing to do, that's your bosses fault. He should be making sure you are busy and challenged. Let him know you need more work. Ask him for a career plan.
its up to your boss. Wow.
confront your boss tell her/him that they are an ***

Think I have the position to be jealous of. I'm a receptionist for a used car lot (not the lame lots but a big name company).

Was given permission by my boss that I could surf the internet just as long as the BIG boss didn't see. My boss says he doesn't care one bit.

So work at 8 am leave at 6 pm and surf internet all day and paid 7.50 and hour to do it. Yep I like my job

**okay you may proceed to hate me now ;P
Find out if anyone else in the office is doing this. I mean u would hate to get fired for this.
I have the same problem. I am in a Union so I can't just go and do other people's work even if its something I can do. I try to make sure I am up to date with EVERYTHING but sometimes there is just nothing more I can do.
I do it more than I want to and probably should, and if someone asks me what I am doing, I ask them if there is anything I can help them with. I mean, everyone here doesn't have much to do either. I steer clear of downloading music. That is a HUGE no-no and I have had friends get fired for that. Otherwise, using common sense online is a good rule to abide by. No porn, for all those idiots (and there are many.)
I am a Sales Assistant. I'm looking for another job because mine is not challenging what so ever, and I have my own office, with my own bathroom and my own wing of the building with no one around. I once was on Answers all day for a couple of weeks because there's not that much to do. We don't sell too much, apparently. I'm driving myself up a wall. So, I'm asking questions to keep my mind off the interview I had on Friday. You answered my question a couple of minutes ago. Thank you. I get away with it. By the way, I make WAY more than Joy. I don't understand why a company needs someone that they don't give much work to. I don't even answer the phone. The girls downstairs do. So, to answer your question... do you know about Alt Tab? you can keep multiple windows open and when someone is around, you can switch them really quickly while looking like you're working on something. Keep a spreadsheet open in one window that is full of data, it looks really good and typically the boss can't focus over your shoulder too quickly.
