College Degree but still no permanent career only long term temp??? |
Am I the only one with a college degree (BBA), struggling to find a permanent position. I just want to here from people that are going through the same thing as me or went through the same at a center point. Not what I should do. I have been out of school for two years. I live in ATL. I can certainly empathize with you. I was working for many years, and got laid off 5 years ago. despite a long working history, and a postgraduate degree, I find myself having to do only temp work for the past 5 years. No health, no dental, no paid vacation,... you get the picture. I write this to tell you not to be discouraged, as there are many folks like you & I in the same situation. Good luck, keep smiling, and continue to search!! Check out job boards like hotjobs.com, monster.com, dice.com, and careerbuilder.com the degree isnt an automatic job. you have to get on your grind, especially in atlanta with some many colleges. how many more thousands of people graduated the same day you did? you may want to consider relocation, but otherwise, we've all been there. finding a good job for your skills isnt automatic. i dont know anyway who has been able to start working in their field quickly unless they already had the job before they graduated! you also need to make sure you are pursuing every employer fair, career fair, professional news letter, and possibly professional associations for networking in your field. Majored in English, love to write, have released one book, never want to teach, working at grocery store (manager) full time only so I have medical/dental, recently found at-home company that will get me out of grocery by next summer if I work at it, never really will use my degree unless you count writing my books, am there, doing that, highly recommend trying to work from home and not DEPEND on a particular degree.
