What is a good place to get my first job? |
I'm a high school student with no experience working and I need some help figuring out where to start out. Around here, there's Walmart, Kmart, all the normal fast food places, Dollar General, Aldi's, Giant Eagle, Gamestop, Taco Bell, Home Depot, blah blah blah...where do you think a good place to get my first job is? Stick with retail...the people skills are better learned and advancment more likely than going from burger flipper to fryer. Well i think the mall because you know it's a great expirience to learn from there and like if you work and a clothing store you might get discounts on clothes :) You are at a great young age where you can do anything you want. You should start by thinking about what it is you want to be when you grow up. Use those ideas to decide on a place to start working now. For example, If you are interested in real estate, home decorating or construction then working at Home Depot would let you be exposed to a number of things in that industry. It's never to early to start thinking about your career path and your future. You should check out www.YSN.com where you can build an online portfolio and learn about all of the different jobs available as well as talk to people who are already doing them. Another great resource YSN has is it's free Self-Assessment. You can take it and it will help you identify what your strengths are and then you can use that in an interview. You will also find that it lists a few industrys that you should consider that you may have never thought about before. When it comes to your job or career YSN.com is definitley a great resource! www.ysn.com |
