I just obtained a job at Sears a month ago, but would like a better one. How long should I wait to quit? |
I want to still be able to get a good reference from them, but I'd rather not stay there longer than I have to. If you've only been there one month I'd go the other way. Try to get a new job immediately and a one month gap on your resume is no big deal. Still, what makes you think the new job will be any better. I mean I don't think sears is anything special but its ok, how would your next job be better. Still, if you are set on moving - do it ASAP and it won't be a big deal on your resume. If you do want to stick around, I'd say 6 months (at least 4), but there is still no guarantee they'll give you a good reference. I would look for another job and then quit. just tell them you found another job that works with your schedule better and that you hope that you arent causing them any trouble by quitting ...but this other job suits your needs better. if you arent happy......dont stay. it's just sears. not like it's a government job. give them at least a 2 wks notice 6 to 9 months and try to make a good impression on your boss until you find a job you want. . . you didn't sign a contract with them so go make yourself happy. Give it another month but give your notice two weeks prior. Keep looking for something better. When you find something you like better then apply when they start looking to hire you give Sears 2 weeks notice and change jobs. Dont quit till you find something 1st that way there is no lull in income. it depends on what position you have. if its something like accounting or management, then you might want to stay a bit longer and give them notice. |
