Can I collect my late husbands social security?

i am a 60yr old widow.

not until your 65.
I'm assuming you are asking this because it was your former husband?

If you were divorced, and you were married for at least 10 years, then yes, you can file for it, but only if he did not remarry.

If he was your current husband, yes, you can file for it and you will receive the death benefit, as a survivor. There are a couple of things that may cut the benefit.

When you turn 65 (unless you plan to take early retirement, if working), if you are getting SS for yourself PLUS a pension, then you cannot receive the death benefit from him to. You would only receive it until it kicks in.

However, if you will only be getting SS, then you would receive both checks.

The age of you, or him, doesn't matter because he is deceased.
