Is it legal to be refused a bank account due to my mothers bad credit history? what can i do about it? |
my mum has big unpaid debt that she is mainly hiding from. I have no debts and have never been overdrawn in my life, i need a student bank account for my loan to be paid in to. My grandparent will be giving me a considerable sum during my studies so the account will mainly stay in the black but, my home address is blacklisted due to my mum's lack of fiscal control. is it legal for them to judge me on what my mother did and what can i do to fix it? My son had the same problem because of his dad. You need to apply for your credit rating through experian. They will send you a list of all debts that belong to your household. You have to sign some paperwork to disassociate yourself from those peoples debts. Its a pain in the bum but worthwhile. My son got a mortage straight away after he disassociated himself. Good luck Yes it is legal, there are 'basic' bank accounts which will allow you access to a cashpoint card and paying in facilities - but don't expect a debit or credit card. yeah, coz you live at the same address. You need to contact expeda (or something like that) who deal with credit ratings and they may help restore yours It is legal, unfortunately. Credit is judged by postcode, length of time and the address, credit rating attached to the address even if it has nothing to do with you. There are credit repair companies though, check out http://www.ukcreditrepair.co.uk/... It's up to the bank to decide who they do business with. Try another one, but explain the problem first. |
