Is it a dumb thing to do? |
I've got tons of money right now. My business is still growing. I have lots of investments in the stock market. I even hired my own financial advisor. But the other day my neice was making fun of me because I'm still driving my old beater. A 1980's Buick Skylark. I just don't like spending money that's why. I have tons of money to buy a new car cash if I wanted to right now but the fact of the matter is; I already have a car and it serves the purpose just fine. Why do I need to drive a fancy car and advertise to the whole world that I got money? It's true that the original owner of Wal Mart drove a beat up chevy pick up truck till the day he died is it not? How is this any different? Why can't people just leave me alone instead of passing judgement on me? When people know you have money they will give their opinions freely. They feel that you have the cash so you should live big and many of them want to live vicariously through you. You put your niece in her place and tell her that you spend your money as you like and there is no need to flash it or to show off to people. You dont live to make strangers happy or to flaunt your wealth. You live to make yourself happy and to enjoy your family and what not. You drive your car til it drops! If it has been a trusty vehicle then you keep her. No sense getting intangled with monthly payments, higher insurance and etc. Many millionaires live next door to people and their neighbors dont even know because they live frugal lives and are smart with their money. You sound like that sort of person and I applaud you. Stand your ground. When people start poking into your business about your money throw that right back at them and ask about their financial business. They'll shut up or see how it feels to be on the other side of the situation. I wish you more and more success with your business. Its your money man, as long as its american and not one of them foreign pieces buy whatever you want/ or don't. I wish I had your problem. Point A to point B is all you ned a car for. $$ to many people is something to show and tell. They will never leave you alone about it until they can get you to share what you have with them. Far better not to share with them and simply show them how they can make $$ on their own. Don't worry about it. You are on the right track. Dumb? Does it get you where you need to go without costing you a $400+ payment every month? It's not a dumb thing to do at all! It's why you have the cash to make "lots of investments"... Way to go! |
