What are good resources for first time home buyers (like books, websites, organizations) ?


I want to buy a new home this winter. =)

We are in the process of buying a home right now. I had never owned before, and I found two books to be helpful.
1) Home Buying for Dummies
2) How to Buy a Home When You Have No Money

Both explained all of the terminology you'll come across in the process as well as common traps buyers fall into. My other recommendation is to get a good realtor, as he or she makes the difference in how smoothly the process goes. Good luck!
Go to Bankrate.com. They have some great "lessons" that will quickly take you through the basics. Also, Freddy mac and Fannie May (sp?) will have that type of information as well. These latter two are programs geared toward first time buyers.

you really just need to talk to someone that can help you sort it out and teach you along the way. theres a lot of info, and the wrong info can cost you. talk to a reputable mortgage broker, or bank. Either way go to this website, it has definitions and tools that can help you out

One of the websites that I found to be very helpful when I bought my first home was www.divinitymortgagegroup.com. I contacted the company and spoke with one of the mortgage consultants who was very helpful in guiding me through the home buying process. I really suggest that you link up with a good mortgage broker who can get you pre-qualified to buy a home. The most important thing is to learn how much of a home you can afford.
