Can a new blogspot.com URL be forwarded to the old one it replaced?

I just recently changed the url for my blogspot blog. The old url is indexed in the search engines, so I need to find a way to make sure the old url doesn't get recycled or used by a new blog. I need it to redirect to the new address. I haven't found a way to this yet. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's possible to redirect your visitors, by modifying your blogger template and adding a bit of code to redirect traffic. You want to add something like this:

<meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://your-new-address.com/">

in your template between the HEAD tags.

However, this is not a search engine friendly method, though it will point your human visitors to the right place.
