What is perception? Explain the dynamics of perception.? |
What is perception? Explain the dynamics of perception. The human mind is a fascinating computer! The mind simply cannot process the thousands of simultaneous stimuli and bits of data, so to approximate the real thing as much as possible, it samples at random. Depending on the sample's size and composition, it may be more or less representative of actual reality (picture the bell curve). Then, to make sense of it, it makes connections based on current and previous samples. (It is similar to a kid drawing a picture by "connecting the dots".) As usual, the configuration of the basic drawing influences that of the next layer of details. It works much the same way as the natural selection process, where the "best fit" conclusion reigns. The mathematical term for this is a "stochastic" process. The result of this process (connecting the dots for the picture) is perception. The variability in samples creates a different picture. So, this is why two people may be seeing the same thing and perceiving it differently. The only way to modify this picture is to add data (provide information or stimuli) so that the composition of the mental picture can "refresh", much as a computer re-calculates. And there you have it: the cliffs notes version of perception. http://psychology.about.com/od/sensation... perception is very commonly used term . In a layman language u can say that perception is the people's actions, emotions, thoughts and feelings are triggered by perceptions of their surrounding. There is 2 words involve that is stimuli and respondent. Here stimuli is those who perceive and those who receive that is respondent. That's why the perception is a dynamic process where 2 things are not equal that is different between 2. Louthers and Robbions in OB |
