Creating a link?

If you create a link doe's it allways go both ways.
or can a site be linked to you but not display your link to their customer?

Links only go one way.

If the link goes from your site to another site it is called an outbound link.

If the link comes from another site to your site it is called an inbound link.

If an inbound link and an outbound link are between the same two sites then it is called reciprocal linking.

There is a 4th kind of link called an 'internal link' and this is a link on a page of your site to another page on the same site. Source(s): Inbound links http://www.seo-blog.com/inbound-links.ph...
Outbound links http://www.seo-blog.com/outbound-links.p...

Chain reaction???
Hopefully my interpretation of your question above is not too far away.

Yes, a webmaster can "hide" a link page from its website, so what you get is a link from a poor/hidden page on his website that even not visited or exposed to the visitors.

This is one of the black hat techniques in SEO. I personally receive many link exchanges for my websites, and the webmasters said that "we have put a link to your site from www.link.com/linkexchage.asp". As I observed, that page is not even somewhere in his websites.

So, practice a good link building with good link exchange from quality websites.
