How Do I Get Area Businesses to Advertise in My Magazine? |
My organization is known around the nation and even around the globe, with one or two chapter in every state. However we only have a national magazine. Therefore we're trying to launch a newsmagazine which will help us reach out to the public. There's no doubt that the newsmagazine will be read by many. Therefore we're trying to find area businesses to support us by advertising in the magazine for atleast $50. The only problem is that I'm trying to figure out how to approach the area businesses. I know other magazines get other businesses to support them but the thing is how do they make it happen? What do I need to know? I agree with Alexander G. about knowing your demographics. You need to be able to show potential advertisers that the reason they're paying to be seen in your magazine is that their demographics match yours and that they will attract more customers. Have you ever heard of the acronym "WIIFM?" It stands for "what's in it for me" and you have to show these people that they will be attracting new customers by buying space in your magazine. If you're still having trouble, find an intern from a local college or university that's studying marketing, sales or advertising to help you out. They can get credit for putting what they're learning to use in the 'real world.' Contact the career centers and you will most likely be able to list your internships for free. I have posted like that and within 12 hours I had been contacted by two students who wanted to work as an unpaid intern, so it can be done. Ashley http://sbcguru.blogspot.com/ Its called door to door sales, instead of going in residential neighborhoods, go and talk to the owner/managers of local businesses. Offer special rates or free proofs or settings, as an incentive to them for agreeing to place ads (signing a contract/deposit/payment) during your appointment. For larger businesses and corporations, you will need to talk to the PR department. Good luck! A good sales team and experienced marketing professionals can get the job done. You need to know demographics. Where is your magazine distributed. Who reads it. How many people read it. |
