Is there a free way to promote and advertise my web store effectively? |
My web site satsun.us sells computer and game systems as well as games and accessories for all. The best way to get traffic to your website is to build a website that answers the questions users ask. There are a lot of tricks to search engine optimization, but all those tricks come unwound each time the search engines change their algorithms - and they try to change them often, so that people can't "game" the search engines. If you build a site that is friendly to search engines, though - meaning URLs without question marks, meaning short pages that focus on one topic rather than wandering all over the place - then you'll consistantly rank fairly high in the listings when someone asks a question your page answers. Another thing that helps you get better ranking is to have other websites link to you. Again, you need to have a website that answers the questions users are asking. If Joe discovers that you've got a great page on orange flanges, and he's discussing orange flanges on his website, he's going to make *his* website more valuable to users by adding a link to *your* website, even without your asking him to do that. You need a website that is constantly fresh. One way to do that is to include a blog on your site. Many blogs talk about taking the dogs to the park last saturday, or complain about the bad haircut they got, but your blog needs to be different - it needs to talk about computer and game systems, as well as games and accessories. Again, you follow the golden rule for search engines: you want each page to stick to just one topic. If the page does a good job of answering a question that users have, the search engines will figure it out. And the more frequently your site changes, the more frequently the search engines will spider your site to find what you've added. Did you ever watch "Miracle on 34th Street?" When Santa started telling Moms that the toys that Junior wanted were available at the competition's store, it really helped the store that Santa was working at. That's true in real life, as well. You probably should set up a page of links to related sites, and even competing sites. When someone is searching for something, they will use your site as a "hub" for their search. What's more, people will recommend your site - in person, in email, and on their website - as a great resource. So you were looking for a free AND EASY way to promote your business? Sorry. If there were such a thing, everybody would already be doing it, and you'd still need something more than you already have. It's a lot of work. But something makes me think you knew it would involve work when you set up a business. I have a number of blog posts on this and related topics, which you can access at the link below. As you already have a website, you may well be happy with your existing web hosting, but you're still invited to phone me on our toll-free support number with your questions. We support everyone, not just our hosting customers. Going out of your way to help non-customers is another one of those "Miracle on 34th Street" techniques that boosts sales, not quickly, but effectively. The best advertising is word of mouth, and I try my best to generate it. You should, too! Source(s): http://a.amishhosting.com The closest you can come to *free* advertising is to exchange links with other websites, but the effectiveness of these links varies considerably based mainly on how visible your link is on the other website and the volume of traffic the other site gets. Other than that, there are no *effective* advertising means that are totally free.
