Increase traffic on my new web site? |
I just open a web site about photography, I'm an amateur trying to be a pro. How do people can see my web site when they search for photographers? by the way...website is www.rdapics.com After an initial review of your website, it appears that your web designer chose to go with a flash-base design and unfortunately, did you ever consider that only 15-20% of Net users are on high-speed DSL. The rest of the 85% of Net users are currently on analog dial-up systems and they will simply leave your website due to the long downloads of your flash images. Download speeds must be kept to a minimum--no long then 30 seconds. You are well advised to redesign your opening webpage to eliminate the flash images or at the very least, reduce their overall size so dial up Net users can readily view your photos. Your metatags need major re-editing. The following article may be helpful to achieve a higher PageRank on Google.com. You may want to consider some simple algorithms which, when observed and committed in designing of a website with placement of various critical metatags that can surely achieve a high search engine presence and increase Internet traffic to your website. These metatag strategies work well with published webpages at Google and Yahoo. Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based website, make sure to fill-in the property entries such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the Internet audience and their incoming setup. For example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages take too long to load up and therefore analog users will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple question, "Who's my end user - is he on dialup or DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users for maximum marketability, then select analog users since 80% of most resident users are still analog Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages is best for them. A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text, is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a graphic, they are not indexable by search robots. Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots are unable to properly classify textual material. Placement of Metatags: A ranking or search order does take place with Google and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which should consist of no more than 65 characters separated by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your domain name is a major recognizable brand name. The second metatag is the "Description" which is usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which best describes one's goods and services. And the very last category - "Keywords" are also somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which is defined as the loading, and submission of repetitive words into a particular metatag category. "Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported to Google's spamreport.com can result in the elimination of your website from their search directory. Here's an example of a very highly-placed website on Google.com: Begin with the very "generic" search query "sandwiches downtown los angeles," taking note to not abbreviate Los Angeles to "LA" and of course, leave out the parentheses ("). It will bring up some 2.4 million+ search results. Check out where "Nazos.net" is ranked. It's on the SECOND FRONT [ranked 15]! Again, Nazos.net's high web presence was achieved by proper web design and placement of relevant metatags according to Google's publication guidelines. Good luck! You've got to get traffic to get traffic. Google is the gatemaster (as of now, but Yahoo Search Marketing is gaining ground). Just off the top of my head, learn as much as you can about: 1. Search engine optimization and how it should drive your website content and titles. One of the first things I would do is change your website URL to something descriptive: eg., "petcarriers.com" is going to immediately rank higher than "road-hound.com" when someone searches for "pet carriers" (my bad, I learned this too late for my business!) 2. Google Adwords or Yahoo's equivalent 3. Search engine registration 4. Textual content advertising 5. Directory listings/link exchanges and how they can increase your search engine rankings There are fantastic free articles on all these topics on the internet. Or, books galore. Once you've got a good understanding of these, you might check out majon.com to see if they offer an affordable traffic generator package for you. See the blog below with some simple things you can do and a secret about new websites and Google. http://www.phifoundation.org I noticed you don't have many keywords added. you can add up to 200. I would also suggest having a bilingual site, which offers one site in English, the other in Spanish. There's nothing on the site that tells me where you're located, so add that to your contact page. If you have a studio, then add a map link for people to find and visit you. Look up wedding services in yoru area, and see if you can work with another business or cross link web sites with them. Have business cards made up and always give out more than one at a time. Put your domain name on yoru car when you drive around. I would also suggest having a camera or symbol to let others know you're a photographer. |
