Using pictures that dont belong to me on my website. Need help.?

I have a website. Not selling anything, no products or services. Is it legal for me to use pictures I find on the internet (EXAMPLE: yahoo picture search) to put on my website. This is a public website.

No, it's not. Most of the pictures on Yahoo.com are copyright the photographer, or the news service that provided them, or maybe by Yahoo itself. The best rule of thumb is to assume that all pictures you find on the internet are under copyright and cannot be used, except when they explicitly say it's ok. Whether you're selling something or not doesn't matter.

A good place to look for images you can use is to look at Flickr.com's Creative Commons section:
http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/...

There are currently about 4 million photos that use one of the six types of Creative Commons license. Be sure to read the restrictions for each license type: some require you to give attribution ("photo by Bob Smith") and some don't.
