Is majoring in Business Management hard? I am not very good at understanding hard math?? |
I am having a hard time choosing a major. I would love to OWN a sweet shop or small cafe. I figured business management could help me with that. HELP! Actually it isn't as hard as you might think. Some of the hardest classes to take were the accounting I and II classes and there wasn't alot of math involved just where the numbers came from and where they went, although I did take finite math, all I really had to take is basic college algebra. The rest of the classes were about consumer education, business law and ethics, and marketing. Good luck and hope this helps. And yes, a degree in business can and will help you own and/or get into a position to manage a business Source(s): AAS in Business Management (cume laude) now a manager at a local business. Check the list of required courses at the school you want to attend. You'd very likely have to live through a statistics course or two, and maybe calculus. There is math in Business Management degrees. But you wont need to take as much as engineers or anyone else does. I'm not going to lie. Yes, it is. I am a junior at UMASS Boston in Business Management. Calculus, Microeconomics, Accounting... i feel like Reese Witherspoon on her first day in Harvard half of the time. But if I can do it you can do it. Trust me. If you can Network and you are social, you will be fine. Its more about time management in college. Maybe I will have to work twice as hard than Bill Nye the Science guy sitting next to me, but that's life. Also, be selective with professors and utilize ratemyprofessor.com. Business management undergraduate degrees are very easy. There is some math, but it's no more difficult than high school math. However, you don't need a business degree to own a business. The math requirements for a bachelors or masters degree in business are very basic. Would it help you with owning your own small business? Possibly. But it certainly isn't required or even recommended.... MBAs and other degrees in Business Management are more likely to help you get a good job managing someone else's business than helping you with your own... If entrepreneurship is your ultimate goal, I'd suggest dropping out of school immediately, getting a copy of The E-Myth, The One-Minute Manager, The Strategy and Tactics of Pricing, How To Win Customers And Keep Them For Life, Why We Buy (the science of shopping), Small Business Accounting Simplified, Gorilla Marketing, and Emotional Branding... Viola! Read those and add in a few years of real-life experience and you've got an instant MBA! |
