I am trying to start my own business and I already bought my domain name. Does my fictious name have to match the domain name or can it be different? Also, can I have multiple fictious names and Tax ID #'s? or is it one per person until you become a corporation or LLC? Please advise. Thank you in advance!!!
your concept is great. thats something i'm thinking about. as far as i know, your fictious name doesn't have to match your domain name--it would be good marketing if it did though. to cut cost down you can have 1 domain covering all your businesses. there's nothing stopping you from have multiple business & tax ids just make sure you file the appropreiate paper with the federal & state & local govts. corp & llc are different forms of business structures. I think you can have as many fictitious names as you want, but you should register them with the state in order to prevent others from using them. You might need only 1 tax ID even though you have multiple business names, you'll have to check with the tax office. I'm not aware of any laws on domain names, so you probably are not required to use a domain name that matches your trade names.
