House removals will be part of my new business?

Does anyone know a formula to figure out pricing of jobs? ie. cost per mile + removal charges?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not a professional and have not worked in this field before, but with a common business sense this one should be easy.

You have to act as if you have no asset you own. So if you have a van or a car with trailer, pretend it belongs to the bank and you are renting/leasing. If a good mate helps you out, pretend you have to pay a full hourly salary. So charge for everything you bring to the job.

The formula is: Your Time + Distance Travelled (both ways, including to the dump) + Refuse Site Charges + Car/Trailer Cost + Labourer Charges (if applicable) + Job Size = Your Bill.

Your Time - Thet's easy, estimate the time it will take you and try not to fool yourself.

Distance Travelled - Again, straight forward; check on Google Maps or Michelin or Mapquest distances between sites.

Refuse Site Charges - That's best an average figure as the dump will charge you by weight and you'll only know the exact amount once you've schlepped the rubbish there.

Car/Trailer Cost - Go for a cheap rental company and use their price

Labour Charges - If you need help, just calculate a low hourly rate.

Job Size - Tricky, are you going by no. of bedrooms, size of property, thoroughness of job (just the attic or "take the lot...") or any other way of determining the scope.

In the end you can have an hourly rate that covers you for eventualities. Sanity-check it against other people in your region who do similar jobs by posing as a potential client (if you're chicken, ask someone of your friends). Finally, make up your mind if you want to quote for full jobs inclusive, or if you want to give an hourly price. The latter will allow you more flexibility in case stuff takes longer than expected.
Hi - This profile looks at starting up a light removals business. It considers key issues affecting the market and demand for this service, as well as likely customers and competitors of the business. Pricing, start up costs, relevant legislation and sources of further information are also identified. http://www.scavenger.net/product.php?pro... you should be able to get a copy free of charge from your local business link office http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/act...
Good luck with your business venture!
