Does anyone have any information about the Taxation of internet sales? |
I just need information about this subject do a search for internet laws I think the only way you pay sales tax is if the company is in the same state as you. I run several e-commerce stores and the only requirement as of right now is to charge sales tax for a product sale within the state of shipment. Regardless if you are shipping the item or the customer is picking it up, the transaction occurs in your state, and sales tax is required. I hope this is what you want to know. If not, post more details and we'll get you updated. Yes, I've done internet sales for the past 8 months. You are only responsible for sales taxes for sales that occur in your home state. That may change later, but that's how it is for now. In Kansas (and this is true for a number of midwestern states), from what the local economic development person told me, if the company has a location (storefront) in the state, the company is responsible for collecting and remitting sales tax. However, if the store does not have a location in the state, the buyer is responsible for remitting what is called "use tax", which is basically the local (destination) sales tax remitted to the state by the buyer instead of the seller. |
