Can irs take my taxes for unpaid child support due from husbands previous marriage? |
Can irs take my taxes for unpaid child support due from husbands previous marriage? Yes if you file together they will take what is owed unless you file for injured spouse! Then they can only take what is his not yours! Ask any tax place they can help you!no, that is a state function, the federal gov, does not inforce those matters, he should pay it though Yes, but you can get a form that will allow for them to take only his portion of the taxes and leave yours alone. go to IRS.GOV and there should be a hotline number you can call or call an accountant, CPA and ask the name of the form that you need. good luck! been there, done that Yes they can. I have taken my loser ex husbands refund check for the past 3 years. No. Child support is a State function, not a Federal one. The State revenue office can hold refund checks from him, but not you.(legally). However, the state will hold your refunds if they think your money is his and you will have to prove to the state that it is not. This can take awhile and be a little frustrating, but you will get your money in the end. No State can make you pay someones else's child support. |
