How do I get a Tax Identification Number (TIN) in the Philippines?

I'm a freelance writer and I contributed an article to a local magazine, but the company won't give me my check because they said I needed a TIN number ot get it, I tried the bir.gov.ph website but I don't know what type of taxpayer I am so I'm not sure which type to register. help!

you would be an employee of a certain company a parttime employee
I always thought that the Philippines would be like hope on the net and search for tax file number and fill out all these answers and the would send you a tax file number through the mail!
...
If you are a foreigner you have to have with you you travel documents when you go to their office-because you have to go there to get one. You have to fill out some forms and don't entertain people other than the one from the BIR representative. Or you can email me for some other questions regarding the matter I'll walk you through, people in this country are just damn crazy.
Try the Bureau of Internal Revenue... i am not sure it is there though... like 90% sure...But you should definitely try there! I got one few months ago but i went with someone who knew what to do, i really can't remember the name of the place...
Where in the Phils are you? If it is the Davao area I might be able to help you.
Just e-mail me.
Good luck!
Go to your city or municipal hall (munisipyo). Usually, there is always a BIR representative there. He will assist you on what to do.

Or, you can go to the nearest BIR office.

Freelance writer? i think it can be categorized to self employed. (not sure, worry not, they (BIR employees) will help you)

GETTING a number is different from paying your taxes. Getting a number is easier. you'll have to fill up forms and they'll provide you your number.
They are issued by the BIR. You can read about the process on their web site at the link below.
