Unemployed for 10 mon. Over 50 appl. out. Signed with temps. I have excellent reviews. No bites. What Now?

I am a admin. assit. with 15 years experience as well as 10 years of purchasing. I have a variety of software knowlege and have done event planning. I'm 54. Think that is responsible?

As much as you wish ppl didn't discriminate, they do ... based on a lot of things, including age, sex and race. I would simply go to www.craigslist.com, go to your specific State and City or areas of which you are willing to travel, and post your resume, highlighting the very key points of your experience and apply to jobs online based on what you think you'd be best at. I can't say enough good things about Craigslist - after all, that is where I found my dream job! Good luck and keep us posted!

50 applications in 10 months? You need to send out 20 resumes a week and fill out 4 applications every day. Treat you job seaqrch as your job. Spend 40 hours a week looking and do not get used to not working, it can become a habit.

Ask everyone you know if they know of anyone who is hiring, ask family, friends, acquaintances, church members, people in line in front of you at the McDonalds. This is no time to be embarrassed.

Look at nearby towns. Make it your goal to walk into every office downtown where you live. I once left 44 resumes and 20 applications in one 16-story building.

Don't be picky. You can always upgrade later.

Be aggressive, be tenacious and stay positive, then come back after your 2000th resume and 500th application and then I will agree that its been really rough out there.
Make sure you are tuning your application and resume to match the job posting. Don't lie, but emphasize things in your work experience that match the job ad.

If the job is not in purchasing, then don't go on and on about purchasing. I believe your resume should be different every time you send it.

The resume is just to get you an interview. When I'm hiring, HR gives me a pile of resumes/applications to sort through. I pick the top 3 or top 5 to interview. Write your resume to stand out among the others in the pile. That will get you an interview and then you can hit a home run when you're in front of the interviewer! Now go get 'em!
