BS in Computer Engineering or Computer Science? |
Currently my major is computer engineering but I was wondering which one's salary is higher and also which is in higher demand? Thanks! This answer depends on what you like better. If you like hardware or interfacing hardware and software, go with computer engineering (CPE). More and more businesses are starting to realize that they need a CPE rather than an Electrical Engineer (EE) to do their embedded design work. Industry is finally starting to realize the value of a CPE. In the long run, the money is better in computer engineering than computer science, assuming that you stay in the engineering field, rather than just program. If you just like programming, then Computer Science BY FAR is the way to go. No reason to put yourself through all the hardware classes. If you like the networking end of computers, Management Information Systems seems to be the way to go. Source(s): 7 years experience in the IT field, 2 years experience in the computer engineering field. I have a degree in Computer Engineering. True computer engineering jobs (ie. working at Intel or AMD type companies ) are very few and really fall more into the hands of highly skilled EE's. Most computer engineers I know wind up programming, which is what most computer sci. grads do.. In the end Comp Sci and Com Eng at the BS level are really very much the same.. If you like to program go with Comp Sci, if you like Hardware and Math more go with ComEng. |
