I want to become a software engineer, can any body suggest by considerding the following facts:? |
I am a govt. employee and 1.50 lakh per annum and I am a MCA graduate from IGNOU, my age is 38 years. what is your suggestion on entering into Software field in this situation. I suggest that you start with some software testing courses. Dont go for core development courses like c/c++/java etc.. These are difficult to get a breakthrough. Try to check those institutes that assist you in placements. Once you have done the training, start attending the interviews. Even if you dont get thru in the begining, do keep in touch with the subject by joining an institute as a teacher. This will improve ur communication skills and give you confidence. Then you will get a break. Realistically speaking give yourself about one to one and a half years to get settled in IT field. I don't mean to be harsh but at your age you should start planning for retirement not change in career infact your childrens should be planning for IT industry .... secondly with a correspondence qualification you are going no-where in the IT industry ... would it be possible for you to start at the junior level at your age ... what position do you think you will reach in coming 10 years ... even for a B.E/ or full-time MCA it takes 10 years to reach to the middle management level ... where do you think you will reach and by that time you will be 50 yrs of age and would be reporting to some-body 25 years junior to you .... and on the other hand you will loose your current job also and will never be able to come back again ... be happy and content with what you have ... if you want a change ... try starting a business with current experience you have ... I feel that age or your current salary does not define your entry into s/w field. Your knowledge is your asset and thats what IT industry look at. One thing here I would like to say, you will definitely find it difficult to get your first job. As you are a govt. employee and people have a general misconception that govt employees can not work over long hours and may not be good team players. Be prepared for such questions even in a technical round, not just in HR round. First get some technical certification, like OCP, MSCP or JCP, depending on your choice of platform. That shall help you in getting through. Remember one thing, that without exp in IT, it will be difficult for you to get your first job, but don't loose heart, keep trying you shall definitely get. |
