Job prospects of applied microbiology?

Job prospects of applied microbiology?

Biotechnological research and development will continue to drive employment growth.

A Ph.D. degree usually is required for independent research, but a master鈥檚 degree is sufficient for some jobs in applied research or product development; a bachelor鈥檚 degree is adequate for some nonresearch jobs (e.g sales and management).

Doctoral degree holders face competition for basic research positions; holders of bachelor鈥檚 or master鈥檚 degrees in biological science can expect better opportunities in nonresearch positions. Source(s): For more information contact:

Unlike what our friend mentioned, the job market gets tougher for higher education levels.

Sadly, you'll be marketable with less education, but more company experience.

As for applied microbiology, look for positions at food companies and perhaps to look to take food chemistry courses or at least learn the jargon of the food chemistry field.

After a couple of years as a basic tech of microbiology at a food company, you're in line for a possible small management position. A Ph.D. won't be able to do that anytime soon.
Job prospects for applied microbiology could be found in food industry, pharmaceutical products and over the counter products. Usually on the Quality Assurance and Quality Control departments. Positions range from QC/QA Analyst, QC/QA Technician, QC/QA Lead all the way to manager. Also in the biotechnology industry/companies usually have Research Assistant, Research Associate or Scientist position besides the quality ones. Jobs in Clinical/Medical Labs usually as a technician, but I believe you would need more clinical academic preparation for this.
At the moment, looking and working for jobs in that field.
