Do you find its much harder to look for a job and its more competitive since jobs are listed on the web now? |
Finding work was once a breeze but so many people know about and apply for that same position because the web spreads the news of the job listing widespread. It is harder for everyone. The volume of applicants has increased, but in general, the quality of applicants has decreased because it's so easy to do. Used to be, you wouldn't take the time to apply for jobs you weren't pretty sure you could get. This has an upside though... if you are clear gem in a sea of idiots, it's pretty easy for the HR people to see that. I wrote about this a long time ago... http://smoothjazzy.blogspot.com/2006/09/... Yeah it's a lot harder.. and even more so now because you're so tempted to just give up and join up with a random scammer that says you can work at home and avoid the rat race... Yeah I hate looking for jobs. Not for me, Last time I was laid off, I had agencies calling me left and right. I finally got three job offers in one week and took my pick. I wouldn't say it's HARDER, but if you neglect other methods of finding work, you'll be sorry. When I'm looking, I use the web AND newspapers AND personal contacts AND job agencies AND networking AND anything else I can think of. This last time, the web did most of my work for me... but I didn't rely on it. |
