many good workers work with experience, graduate but not the course he/she has taken. With experiences they got from their jobs, they even exceled. When they grow older, they could hardly find a job because of the age. Still capable, and hard working, but age matters a lot to most employers. Who would hire such person?
it's not what you know it's who you know - get your work out there - and get to know people who are in a position to get you a job whether it would be a reference or someone who admires your work or even a sponsor. never say never I don't know "who" but I know it's possible. I actually talked to someone recently in the same situation who is in his 40's. Especially in the arts, degrees don't matter much. I don't think employers discriminate against age as much as you think. Besides, this is the 21st century. People are living longer lives and 53 is not considered old! Im sure there are plenty of companies who will employ someone with 11 years experience. Now days companies look for experience rather than qualfication.
