What are some steps to take in order to get a better job?

I have a bachelors degree in communication/journalism, but i'm not sure if i want to do anything in that field. I am interested in office, bank or possibly teaching. How do I move ahead? What are some good basic computer programs that everyone uses that I should learn. I know Word and Power Point, but very little about Excel (spreadsheets) and nothing about Quickbooks.

I would focus on learning all the Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc). The 2007 version of Office is very powerful; especially the Excel and will take time to learn. On your career choice, it would depend on what you really enjoy doing. Do you enjoy meeting with different people all the time(banking), or working with kids (teaching) or with the same group of folks daily (office). Remember that each one of these may have the negative sides as well ; banking - irate customers because YOU lost their deposit, disrespectful adolescents, or dealing with office politics. You should find something that you really love and then it won't seem like it's a job. As far as getting a start you might try doing some volunteer work (teaching) or taking a part-time job for the other two. Spend some time there and it will be revealed to you which one is right for you.
