How is GIS used in Aviation?

Hi, I have an interview in two weeks for a GIS Technician postion for an aviation department. While I'm very comfortable with my skills in GIS, I don't know much about how Aviation Departments use GIS- I'm assuming for noise control, mapping airport location and building, and such. Does anyone have any idea what the daily operations would be like, what type of projects would a GIS Tech do in this field, and what skills are AViation departments looking for in a GIS tech?

Thanks

They also use it in spatial analysis such as angle of taking off in relation to distances of structures, mapping of wind patterns, bird migrations, stuff like that. You should definitely know Arc 9.x and have some autocad experience. Also, work with LIDAR and DEM's might be helpful. Source(s): I am a geospatial analyst
