Question about education?

Hello! I have a friend who graduated with an Associate Degree in Computer Systems Design and Programming from another country. He is curious if he will able to find a job or what are the chances he get a job in the I.T. field when he migrates to the United States? Thanks

If he speaks good English and offers to take less money, then that would probably work. However, Associate degree might not be enough. It might be that skills are the only thing that will get him by.
If he speaks good english and is motivated he should do good. It will also help if he took additional courses within the field.
In the current job market for tech jobs, your friend may be able to apply for a lower end IT position if he is willing to sacrifice on compensation to get in the door. At the software company I work for though, we almost will never interview anyone who hasn't received a bachelor's degree unless the person is being referred by an existing employee.

It isn't a matter of what country you are from, unless you are unable to CLEARLY speak english. You might have a masters and come from China but from what I have heard from other companies in the industry is that the Masters will mean nothing if they can't understand you in the interview, unless you are lucky enough to use your nationality as an advantage and apply with a company that is specifically looking for foreign language options.

Education only will take you so far though. Experience is the king of the tech industry which can make it hard even for new grads to get jobs because most companies don't want to gamble on a greenhorn. The reverse is true as well...sadly. You might be a 20 year vet in the tech industry and got downsized and go looking for a job and even though you are willing to start over in your salary scale, most companies look anxiously at vets because they assume they will want more than a noob.
10+ years experience in the tech industry and research during college into hiring patterns in the educational technology industry.
In the technical world, it's more about technical and communication skills. At my company, there is a high percentage of international employees (India, Russia, UK, Austria, China, Taiwan) who have migrated over to the U.S. They are smart, skilled and can communicate well. Not perfect English, but at least you can ask him "what's up?" and he doesn't look at the ceiling.
