Computer science. whats it about?

i am a student and will soon be going to university in a couple of months time to study computer science.

can i ask what is the computer science all about? what programs will i come across to work with?

what is the career path like? what jobs can i go into?

and finally what are salarys like?

being a CS (computer science) student
is not that easy... but if you graduated, you can be successful if you grab the right path...

In CS.
you will encountering programming...
such as C,c++, visual basic -- this are programming that is basic and fundamental to your career.

basically, computers its history, architecture, devices,
networking, what ever,

primarily, you must have a field major...

if programming, networking, system analyst ...multimedia...database..,.we...

if you like to be rich... try to be a programmer, primarily, it is hard for you must familiarize the latest programming languages but you can be a chief programmer or programming administrator.

if you are a good communicator and "sharp-eye" type of person you can be an analyst.

if you like animation, major yourself to multimedia for graphics and animation...

primarily, being a computer graduate is a top-salary job...
if you do great on it...

I am an IT student... majoring multimedia
but i have also CS subjects that is essential to us...

goodluck!

Computers
Ahh, you can get answers on here, but it's best to talk to your guidance counselor. Or the university staff member who will advise you on what classes to take. That person is more likely very knowledgable on what courses go with the computer science degree, and how much money you will make once you leave the school. The school staffs know best because they are constantly being contact by the corporate america, looking for graduate to fill positions.

But if you want to know right now, I will tell you: Computer Science is the study of computer. It's more likely technical then programming. Though they will teach you some coding, you know some computer language along with some hardware. You will also have to learn about different OS, operating systems and languages, standards and networking. They teach you the basic, but if you want to learn some specific like Cisco or Linux, you will have to take those courses, and some schools don't offer them.

The money. What money? I am Microsoft Certified and I still don't make enough. I know most people are in the same position. But hey, you might get lucky. Most of the jobs, technical are overseas.

You can be one of the lucky few and become a network admin of a big corporation. But inorder to do that, you got to have more than a college degree. You would have to go out on your own and learn different hardwares and mainframes etc.....You definitely got to know Cisco and Linux, unix, not just that Microsoft stuff. That is the basic. There are so much to know out there, and no one will have the answers to everything.
i personly dont have a glue lol
computer science definition differs from institution to another, however, normally it's related to the components of computers and how they work (the hardware)
u would expect studying about computer internal architecture, networking, the internet, project management ..etc..
off course, at university there will be more subjects, which is good, because that gives the flexibiltry to switch to another area in computing.
there are various positions from working by hand in installations or repairs to the highest level of directing the department of IT in a firm (for example).

salaries depend on qualifiacation and experience, normally it ranges between 拢20-拢45K, again that depends on experience..

if you are considering the software area, i would advise u to see the British Computer Society's website:
