Is a Cadd/Drafter Technican a Dead End Job /Career? |
Hello, I am trying to get some feedback on this, is a job as a drafter a dead-end job, whether it be architectural, civil or mechanical or whatever, would you need a BS in Arch or Engineering to go further, most jobs I see only require a HS Diploma but with lots of experiece(3-10yrs,etc) Are you stuck then? Also would it be possible to combine skills for more pay, (like cadd tech/ it support or cadd tech/ graphic designer, do these jobs exist, if so are their cities in the US that would have more opportunities? I am in Central Florida and have a wide variety of skills(too broad in my opinion, (but I dont want a dead-end cad tech job) My skills and interests lie in (web design/development, CAD, GIS, IT/database, graphic design, multimedia, programming) Are their positions that would be somewhere in that realm? If so, should I relocate or pursue higher education? Can I get a perm job over $40,000? Any solid advice from seasoned professionals would be helpful Thanks It absolutely is not. The only dead end would be when you decide that you are happy with your career. A basic CAD tech can then go on to be an advanced tech, then manager of a cad team, then probably managing director of design if they are with the right company. The best cities are going to be where the software and internet based companies (or architectural, depending on how you want to go with it) are located. A perm job over $40k should be available with as little as 2 years experience or even less, depending on the area. |
