What is it like to be in an oil and gas industry?

What is it like to be in an oil and gas industry?

There are many sectors in that industry, depends what you are looking for, but I can tell you some guidelines about that industry:

1- It starts with seismic and geophysical operations followed by analysis and interpretation for data and that will lead to the possible locations of Gas and Oil reservoirs.
Electrical, electronices engineers, technicians, petrophysisites, etc will be related to that sector

2- Drilling operations will be the next stage, exploration well will be drilled to determine the physical existance of hudrocarbon in the surveyed locations . Once hydrocarbon existance proved, further drilling operations will continue to determine the field bounderies and drilling the production wells.
Petroleum engineers, reservoir engineers, electrical and mechanical engineers, geologists, and different technicians and will be related to that sector

3-Production Phase
Construction of field production facilities, pipelines, pumping stations storage tanks and farms, and export terminals will take place to produce , transport, store ,and export the oil/gas. .
This sector includes power stations, instrumentation, laboratories, michanical & electromichanical eqipment, production facilities, flowing and observing oil/gas wells, tank farms, corrosion control, etc .
All kind of engineers and technicians are related to that secto

4-Management and Planing
Different departments at the town headquarters like Petroleum, reservoir engineering, planing & design, geology, etc will be following up for planing development, operating, problem solving, HSE, etc.

5- Processing oil/gas
After producing and exporting the hydrocarbon internally and externally the crudes will be processed by refineries, petrochemical plants, frtilizers plants, LPG plants etc. It is another sector of oil/gas industry with endless branches of operations and technologies.

Salaries in the oil/gas industry are usually high especiall for experienced engineers and technicians.

Site jobs are based on work cycles, i.e work one month and have 2 weeks leave, work 10 days and have one week off, and so on. Site work is tough and remote, however high wages and attractive packages compensates fot it.

The above was just a very short and general guide lines, hope it will be useful.

this day in age I'm sure it's great, record profits and high prices...it's got to be good wouldn't you think?
First they said prices were high cause oil prices were high, then it was oh shortages from the refineries...well now oil is down and there is a surplus of gas and we are still over $2 a gallon so it's still probably real nice to be in the industry right now.
