I.T question? |
I have a sales background and have done a ton of computer related side jobs from fixing blue screens to network config, OS upgrade desktop support the list goes on and on but all these side jobs are useless when i have resume loaded with sales and these short under the table gigs are not resume material I have knowledge but there is no paper trail i.e. degree, certs, degree So i am thinking about taking some certification programs currently i am in a cisco course and i am looking in to microsoft certs but would those get me in the door to at least prove i have the knowledge and just didnt cram my brain the night b4 the test and forgot what i learned? One way to handle your miscellaneous work on your resume is to lump them together under a consulting title. It just is not easy. You are doing everything right, but IT managers are not known for thinking outside the box when justifying new hires in the quarterly budget You ARE a salesman. You are the product you are selling. Having the Cert means you beat the test. No paper or gold star is going to prove what you want it to. Getting in the door is pure Sales. BTW, get the Certs anyway, they can;t hurt. |
