Certification course question?

what are some certification course's called for computer related stuff i am currently taking a cisco course and thinking of an A+ course after it what other courses can i take that are known in the industry? i am not talking about a typing certificate certifactes that would help land a job in the technical world weather it be desktop support, network config, pc repair whatever

thanks

It really depends on what you want to do, the opportunies presented, and the relevance to where you are in your career. For example, if you want to be an Oracle DBA in a shop that runs AIX, it would make no sense to certify as a Solaris System Administrator.

For an entry-level tech, I'd rather see and hear about what you've done (i.e. built and configured a PC that runs linux, built an ad hoc network to run a multiplayer quake session, or wrote a program that catalogs music downloads, etc).

I personally don't put much weight in entry-level certs; there are too many people out there that brain dumped the exam, and can't do the work.

The first thing to do, however, is decide what you want to do, and prepare your education and training accordingly. Source(s): Me. I've been an I.T. Manager for 5 years.
The Microsoft Certifcations are one of the most industry recognized; in the technical field. You can take MCP courses anywhere but I suggest going to a Microsoft Certified Partner for Learning Solutions. You can find one close to you by going to http://www.microsoft.com/learning/traini...
These are partners that are certified by Microsoft to deliver technical courses in certification and the trainers are also certified by Microsoft.

Next, decide which certification is right for you. Lets say you decide to become an MCSA (Systems Admin). There are three core exams required and one elective exam. Once you pass your first exam you are automatically an MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional). Then once you finish the rest, you'll be recognized as that particular certification.

Also Microsoft recognizes A+ certifications. You can you some of your courses or exams toward a Microsoft certification such as MCSA. It would suffice the elective requirement. Check out more certifications and the requirements at http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/si...

You can take these tests at Prometric or Vue testing centers. Try to stick to one testing center. You can find a local one at Prometric.com or Vue.com

Check out MCPMag.com This is a Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine, this will tell you what certifications are in demand based on the area you live in. Also salarys in the area you live, live chat rooms etc...

If you have additional questions regarding the certification program contact msledp@microsoft.com

Hope this helps!
Myself...I used to work for MCP/MCT program for 5 years and was a supervisor for the MCP/MCT program for 2.
