I have a BS in mechanical engineering from University of South Florida. I had been out of college for almost 4 years. I have been at the same location all of that time but will soon have worked for three major corporations. The place will have changed hands 3 times because of sells and acquisitions. I worked as a supervisor for about 1.5 years of that time and the rest as a process engineer. I also have some experience being a supervisor from working while in college I work all threw out college. I am starting a MBA program at Florida State this fall and wonder with my experience and the addition of this degree were I can go. I have been working for an electronics manufacturing plant in the automotive sector and I believe manufacturing in the U.S. is on its way out and I need to develop some new marketable skills. What are my options? Is the MBA a good ideal? The company will pay for the MBA.
If the company is willing to pay for the MBA, and you are willing to do the work then I would highly recommend it. An MBA is not going to get you a specific position in a company, but it does set you apart from others that are applying for positions whether it is with the company you are with today or another company. You will learn allot of good transferable skills in the MBA program which you will find even more useful if you try and move away from the manufacturing sector. I would highly recommend that you go for it!
