Electrical engineers; I need your advise? |
I have a BS in Electrical Engineering, I have looked for jobs in my field without any progress, I got discouraged so I took a job in China as an english instructor. I don't want to waste my college degree so I want to returned to work as an EE. I think the fact that I didn't get a job is because I have a 2.5 GPA, most companies that I applied to required a 3.0 or above. Is there any engineers out there who did have 2.5 GPA and are successfull engineers? How long did it take for you to find a job after graduation? What did your employers expect you to know on your first job? Thank you in advance for your answers My GPA was a bit higher than yours when I got out. I think that GPA is but one indicator of your skills. You need to demonstrate on your resume that you have the skills and abilities above and beyond GPA to make a go at it. Now that you worked in China, use that experience to demo that you are familiar with another culture, that you're capable of adapting to new environments. I'm sure you worked w/ your college's placement office before you graduated. It took me two semesters working through the placement office before I got the only offer I ever got, and it came a month before graduation. At this point, put your alumni membership to work for you. Many have connections with employers nationally and locally. Employers seek freshouts who have specialized abilities, knowing that they probably can remold them into something else due to their ability to adapt. Good luck. |
