Too Many IT Skills???? |
IS it possoble to have too many skills on your resume for an IT professioanal? I have web programming, web design and general It skills. Is is better to list all your skills or just the few you are expert on? Dont want to be pigeon-holed but also dont want to be jack of all trades,(programmer, network guy and dba) Some jobs require all skills , some require a few, so you dont know what to put down to match their skills, its whatever they want for their project or job, not what you know Hard to understand all this mess Any feedback please Yes, it is possible to have too many IT skills on a resume. Any irrelevant information is distraction from critical elements on your resume. Your expertise level isn't the criteria for determining whether a particular skill is relevant. It is the job description that tells you what the hiring company want and thus determines what is relevant. For example, if a company is looking for an Oracle DBA for a data warehouse project, then the most relevant information is Oracle database management skills, then data warehouse experience. The fact that the candidate may have been an Oracle DBA for a SAP implementation project is irrelevant. Jack of all trades is not an expert of any and thus not helpful in seeking a senior level position. Best wishes. in addition to resume skills you can supply, have a certification or two to include in your resume. make it non-vendor specific. check out the links. good luck to you www.iccp.org www.tdwi.org www.dama.org www.soxinstitute.org |
