What will I be doing at this job?

I'm wondering if I should apply at for this position:
Research Aide I -- R303
Systems Management & Production Center
On-Call
Pay Range: $6.92 - $8.39
Junior or Senior level standing in high school/knowledge of computer operations including MS Windows 2000, NT, or Windows 9x/college Freshman or Sophomore level desired/technology related experience preferred/
programming experience desired/U.S. citizenship is required

I am a sophomore in college majoring in computer science, so I have the programming experience, etc. It's "on call" and with the university I am at, so do you think they will work around my classes as much as possible? Also, I don't want to be like a secretary or anything - I don't mind keeping records, etc. I just don't want to be somebody's little b*tch. I guess I'm trying to ask - what exactly does a research aide do? I want to get into research is why I am interested. I think being in that environment will help me get a future job in research. Ideas?

They aren't paying very much, so they can't have that high of expectations.

It sounds like it might be a good job to do while you are going to school though - and it will get some experience on your resume.

I lucked out into a temp position doing in-field warranty work for eastman kodak fixing apple computers while I was finishing up my bachelors degree - it was awesome, paid $10 an hour, and looked great on my resume. All I had to do was go to the airport, pick up a load of motherboards and parts, and run around fixing machines. Most of them were in schools, so I would go to one place, fix several dozen, and go home.
Phone them and ask them. They know best. Sometimes people mean different things for job spots even if they call it the same way.
As someone already suggested, the best way to find out for sure is to contact them.

From the description and pay, the job sounds like exactly what you say you don't want. It seems to be a on-call trouble shooting technical support position.

Best wishes.
