Have you ever heard of a company giving a homework assignment before the in person interview?

There was a phone interview and now a homework assignment? I've not heard of anything like this. It's a fortune 500 company and the position is manager in call center.

I recently met an aspiring journalist who was "assigned" a news story as part of his interview.
It's actually a very good concept, since it actually shows the applicant's abilities, rather than just the ability to write a resume or bs thru an interview.
However -- I'd ask if you are going to be paid for the work even if you are not selected (because basically, they are asking you to work for free for the assignment)
Well if the position is important to you, I would do your best on this homework assignment. But no, I have never heard of such a thing, but I've been out of the mainstream of business for several years now. About to get back in. But I did have to take a personality test once for a job, it took me over an hour and by that time, the damn job wasn't worth the aggravation in my opinion. Mgr Call Center, well each company to their own.
yes, think this is becoming more common now
