I need couple of lines on my resume ..Can you help me ?

One of my friends advised me to " use my call center experience to show i am personable yet able to work on your own. "

Now this is the scenario , i am tryin to get a job in electrical or computer engineer( since i finished my major in elec and comp engineer)
But the only , and one and only experience i have is with this call center ..[ i went to work there against my rents wishes since i wanted to do my own thing and they "never" let me]
anyway emotional stuff aside..

... i am tryin to fill up my resume using the "PROJECTS" i did in college , i hope it works
but as far as the previous experiences goes , How am i supposed to convert the call center experience into make them know that i am personable yet able to work on my own ?
i can't imagine any lines or sentenses into my mind. i can't COME UP WITH ANYTHING , my mind is going BLANK . Please help ............This will make my day ! :)

For a technical job, you should definitely use your projects for your experience, you can do this as long as you can demonstrate that you can answer questions about the projects in your interview. I've hired newbies in the tech sector and that's one thing I look for - what they did in college, not the pizza delivery job they had to pay the rent. Highlight your degree and your gpa, then list your projects. Be very analytical in your descriptions. Have references. Never use 1st person ("I") in your descriptions (I did this, I did that). All should be 3rd person. If you want to be in technology, don't focus on your "personable" skills. This is something that should come through once you get the interview. Do list the call center as a job, as well as any previous jobs you had and be analytical in its description as well.

There are two things here that need to be addressed - how you present yourself and what potential companies are looking for. Your person skills can be valuable, but there is a big difference between phone skills and face-to-face skills. Are the positions you are applying for looking for face-to-face skills? Is this something you need to work on? Probably - most of us do.

I'm guessing by posting here that you want an honest answer. You MUST work on your communication skills. Even e-mails make a huge difference in the corporate world. Be sure to write EVERY correspondence in full sentences, use correct grammar, and always be respectful. You may be the most fun and likeable person on the planet, but if you communicate as well as you wrote your question, you will be working in a call center for a long, long time.

I've worked in technology and as a hiring manager for 15 years. If you corresponded with me using the above written skills, I would never have called you for an interview. I'm not being mean, just offering constructive criticism to help you get the job.
You could add under education in your resume called "Related studies/projects." Describe something about it in the resume might help them know your experiences.
Please reread the dragonlady's response.

The point of a resume is to create an interest in you as a potential employee. Your aim is to interest the person who reads your resume enough to call you for an interview.

I, too, have been interviewing for years and I can see through a bs resume in five seconds flat. You won't get a call back from me either.

First start with what YOU found interesting and valuable in each of the projects and the job. Then look at the job you want and see what fits between the two. Finally, do a little research on the company offering the job you want and look for connections between all three. Highlight those things in your resume and mention a couple of them in your other communications with the company.

Next, get some help from your college. They want you to get a good job almost as much as you do.

And, be truthful and brief in your resume. Nobody expects you to have ten years of experience coming out of college.
