I have a B.S. in Structural Engineering and I hate my first job. Should I stick it out or find a new career?

I chose the major because I wanted something challenging that I new I could make money with. I also liked physics alot. I like the physics aspect of engineering. I didn't really get along with my fellow engineering majors though, I found them to be really antisocial. I started my first job 7 months ago at a very small firm (6 engineers). I hate it. I like the physics aspect, but my boss is everything but abusive, I seem to do everything incorrectly, I am always making mistakes, and I have a very hard time concentrating at work. I feel very worn out by the end of the week. Does it sound like I chose the wrong career or that I am a typical professional experiencing his first job and that I should stick with it. The tricky part is that I am on the fence about whether or not I actually like the material. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Network with other people in similar situations and find out if they are in a similar environment. Sounds like the wrong place not the wrong job to me.
I think that you should try and find another job in your chosen career. Not all places have that type of working environment.
Structural engineering can be an exciting and interesting field, but it is not for everyone. Your problem may be that you are working for the wrong company or wrong boss. Don't give up on the field yet. You are too new at it. There is a lot of variety available in the field.

I worked in a structural engineering office for 12 years, with 4-5 engineers and a great boss. Most of the work was school buildings, occasionally a hospital, church, or office building. But when I was loaned out to another engineer, we worked on dams and bridges. Another office concentrated on pre-stressed concrete structures.

You might try applying for a job at another firm that may be more suitable. If after a year or two you still don't find it challenging enough you could consider getting more education, such as a PhD in physics.
