Tech Support Call Centers -- are these good jobs? How do they treat their employees?

My son worked for one for a while. They treated the employees OK, but the pay was not super. There was a lot of turnover, so the chances for advancement were good. The night and weekend hours can be a drag. He left because he was bored with answering the same questions oever and over.
