Tech professionals: Did you think college was easier, or is work easier? |
What differences did you experience while transitioning from college to work? I LOVED COLLEGE AND WOULD HAVE STAYED THERE FOREVER IF I HAD THE MONEY. I WORKED HARD AND GOT A LOT BACK. I FELT CHALLENGED AND WAS CONSTANTLY REWARDED FOR MY EFFORTS. WHEN I GRADUATED I FELT A LITTLE LOST WITHOUT THE CONSTANT POSITIVE FEEDBACK I WAS USED TO GETTING. WORK WAS FRUSTRATING FOR AWHILE BECAUSE IT TOOK TIME TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO APPLY ALL I HAD LEARNED IN COLLEGE. EVENTUALLY WORK BECAME MORE FUN AND REWARDING THAN COLLEGE HAD BEEN. I ALWAYS THANKED GOD THAT I HAD BEEN GIVEN A GOOD EDUCATION TO BUILD ON. I think it varies from person to person. For me, I think work is more fun with versatile responsibilities. You learn more practical experience in a job than college. You get to work with people and make a difference. College is boring because you are stuck in a classroom and just learn about theories. There is nothing I learned in college that I use in my job. I think work is easier because you get to learn what you want to learn. In college, I was forced to learn things that I was not necessarily interest in to meet my college requirements. College was easier, but it was more effort. My work now is very challenging, but it is what I make it. I want to succeed so I seek out challenges that interest me and go for it. Not everyone does this - some people get out of college and get an everyday job that pays the bills with not a lot of potential. It really is what you make it! BTW - I loved college! It was fun learning new information even if I don't use much of it on a day-to-day basis. |
