What do these engineering consulting firms do , and will i get an interview right away if i show them/ send them my resume ?? ? Engineering consulting firms are think tanks of professional engineers working together kind of like a Law Office or a shared Medical Practice. They maintain marketing departments to sell their skills on a temporary basis to companies that need expertise in a specific field but lack the need to hire and develop departments and engineering staffs for current projects. If you have a degree, by all means apply. Take your chances, they might need widget designers this week! (Just kidding you) No pain, no gain they say. Well if you're an electrical engineer, you'll be designing electrical layouts for homes, buildings, etc. Or perhaps doing lighting and signalization for street and traffic lights. Either way you'll want to have your FE/EIT certification to show that you are on your way to getting professional engineer status. I can't guarantee you an interview with these firms right away, but if your resume is good and you have a convincing cover letter, your chance are good. Worked for power distribution company, dealt with a lot of engineering consulting firms. |
