Which is the best computer career and which pays the most? |
Computer programming or comp science, computer networking, computer multimedia design, or computer generated imagery dealing with special effects? I love computers even though idk much about them, but I wanna learn, and television. I'm still deciding what I should study in college and then do as my career...please help Do you want to be happy, or rich? I made more money than I ever imagined as a consultant. I traveled the world. And I was miserable living out of a suitcase, superficial relationships with people, nearly lost my wife and kids. For what, the money? How much does it take to be happy for you? Where do you want to live? All the jobs you cited pay well. CGI is a great field, but the money doesn't go as far in LA as it does in Orlando. I make almost as much now as I did as a consultant 10 years ago, but am MUCH happier. I am still in Information Systems, but I don't travel anymore and I live in the part of the country that I choose to live in - where my wife and kids are close to family. If you like building things and solving problems, programming and networking are cool careers (but programming is being outsourced to other countries - networking is more stable). Multimedia can be done from almost anywhere, but doesn't pay as well as the other disciplines. CGI pays well, but gaming companies, movie firms and others who need these people aren't hiring by the tens of thousands every year - and now some of that work (it is programming) is going overseas too. Whatever you choose, do what you love. If you do, you will find that by doing a great job for something you have passion around will mean the money is not far behind. |
