Never worked in a call center before...? |
I used to be a server, and serving is a breeze to me, so much so i got bored with it and hated the wage, so i got hired out at a call center as a technical support rep. I know my way around a computer like the back of my hand so that's not a problem for me, it's just the whole cubicle, headset, phones, and stapler 8hr a day environment that frightened me a bit. The cubicles are tiny, people try to decorate theirs but it makes it look more depressing and more crammed, and they are all squeezed into a big warehouse size building. All of them, in rows and columns with their headsets on and slouched over. How do you people do this 8 hours a day??? Call Center work is not for everybody. Call Center work can be very rewarding if you like helping people and solving problems. A lot of people like the fact that the days go by fast if you are busy taking calls and once you are done, there is no work to "take home." Most call centers promote from within, so good agents often become Team Leaders. id also like to know this seeing as im going to be working in this field soon oh to answer ur question....get a gameboy for the boring time I have no idea! I worked in a few when I first started working and since my last job at a call center (about 7 years ago) I vowed to never work in one again!! I hated the cramped spaces, but most of all I HATED having to call the customers for whatever the hell the reason was and then listen to them getting pissed I was bothering them!! ME! I used to work in an outbound call center (telemarketing- ugh!) and it was absolutely horrid. We were doing credit cards, and gathering all sorts of personal information, and they were absolute nazis about not letting us have cell phones, ipods, gameboys, ANY form of writing utensil or paper, or any other thing that we might've been able to record information with. In addition to all that wonderful stuff, you're stuck at a desk with your headset, with nothing to do. I made it three months at that job, and was beyond ecstatic when I left. Good luck. |
